Dr
Bernard Cummings
Dr. Bernard Cummings graduated from the University of Otago Medical
School in 1991, where he was awarded his Bachelors of Medicine and
Surgery (MBChB).
Bernard furthered his education at the Royal Australian College
of Surgeons, Australia, and at the London Business School where
he was awarded a Sloan Fellowship in Management (Sloan MBA), specializing
in New Venture Development in the Life Sciences Sector.
In 2006, Dr. Cummings founded Montreal Logic Ltd. UK – a
company providing investors with commercial due diligence on early-stage
ventures for medical device and biopharmaceutical markets.
His recent roles include consultation to both Orteg Bioengineering
in London – a privately held venture-backed company with CE
Mark approval for a synthetic meniscal implant, and Abingworth Management
Ltd, London - a company managing $1.25 billion for life science
investment.
Dr. Cummings has been associated with Endeavour Capital since 2003.
George F. Steinfels, PhD, MBA Venture Partner
Dr. Steinfels is a twenty-five year veteran of the medical technology industry, with expertise in product development and commercialization. He has held positions of CSO, COO, CBO, and CEO in large and small, private and public medical technology companies. His diversified career that included executive positions in biopharmaceutical companies and the contract research industry resulted in achievements that ranged from discovery and clinical development of drugs with novel mechanisms to launch of several blockbuster pharmaceuticals.
More recently, Dr. Steinfels founded BoneGrafix Inc. BoneGrafix is a privately held medical device and biomaterials company engaged in the development and commercialization of innovative synthetic bone products that promote rapid healing and remodeling of bone tissue. The Company’s technology is expected to produce cost-effective products which combine the regenerative and remodeling features of autografts with the best properties of allografts and synthetic bone.
Dr. Steinfels has written and published extensively and speaks at business conferences on various topics in the medical technology industry. Dr. Steinfels received a BA in Biology from The Johns Hopkins, an MS and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Maryland, Postdoctoral studies at Princeton University, and an MBA from The Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr Aaron Small
Dr. Aaron Small graduated with a PhD in chemistry from Victoria
University of Wellington in 2008, where he specialised in the addition
of functionality to natural fibres through the use of nanotechnology.
Aaron also works as a Research Fellow at Victoria University, where
he is involved in the scale-up and commercialization of a novel
technology. He is active in the social media space, where he has
recently started a blog (www.thescientistnz.blogspot.com) on science
and technology startup issues in New Zealand.
Aaron’s long term career ambition is to work at the interface
between business and science, creating successful high growth companies
based on sound science and technology.
