Ectus
Secures Foothold in North American Market
29th March 2005
New Zealand technology
start-up Ectus has launched into the North American
market, signing distribution agreements for
Ectus MEDIA, its innovative online collaboration
software solution, with major US distributor
Roscor Corporation.
The deal involves
Illinois-based Roscor actively marketing and
distributing Ectus MEDIA to Roscor’s extensive
client base in Central and Mid-West USA and
also engaging as Master Value Added Reseller
across all of North America.
Ectus MEDIA is a
world-leading technology solution developed
out of research from Waikato University.
The software utilizes
video streaming and rich media to make videoconferencing
sessions or any other recorded presentations,
seminars or lectures available on demand to
anyone with access to the Internet.
Users of Ectus MEDIA
can not only view streaming video presentations,
they can also collaborate with other viewers
and the presenter by adding and reading notes,
asking questions, and viewing graphics and PowerPoint
slides linked to the presentation.
Ectus’s CEO,
Dr Mark Topping, said North America was the
world’s largest market for video conferencing
and online collaboration products and the Roscor
distribution agreement signified a major foothold
into that market.
“ Roscor knows the market well and we
have been impressed by the wide access they
have to potential Ectus clients across a full
range of industries where MEDIA would be a real
enhancement to business communications or educational
facilities,” Topping said.
Roscor Corporation
has been a leading provider of professional
video, audio, multimedia, and computer based
products and services for more than 30 years.
It is headquartered in Mount Prospect, Illinois,
and operates full service regional offices in
Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio.
The markets Roscor
covers include education, corporate, video production,
video post production, audio production, audio
post production, presentation systems, distance
education, broadcast, transmission, mobile production,
and computer based multimedia applications.
Roscor’s Videoconferencing Business Unit
Manager, Chris Otten, said Ectus MEDIA’s
strong interactive tools and capabilities made
it a strong offering to showcase to clients
and resellers across North America.
“ There is
a large and growing demand from corporations,
government agencies and educational providers
for web-accessible collaborative communications
tools,” Otten said.
“ Ectus MEDIA offers an exciting suite
of capabilities not previously presented in
a single solution.”
Ectus was established in June 2004 and is based
at Hamilton’s Waikato Innovation Park.
The company’s ownership is split between
the University of Waikato, the inventors of
its proprietary technology and venture capital
investor Endeavour-icap.
